August 6, 2013– The Ouachita Parish Community Network Pilot has begun training of all teachers in publicly funded programs of children aged birth to five years in the state selected child assessment tool, Teaching Strategies Gold. Margie Nielsen and Gerry Binkley of Child Care Connections, the Resource and Referral Agency for the Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana, is a trainer of TS Gold. Teachers to be trained include those at child care centers who are participating in the pilot, Early Head Start, Head Start, NSECD (Nonpublic School Early Childhood Development Program) sites: Claiborne Christian and Our Lady of Fatima, Ouachita Parish School System and Monroe City School System Pre-K programs.
Being selected as a pilot for this year provides programs with the opportunity to work out the kinks of a new system with support as well as provide feedback to leadership in Baton Rouge. Other professional development required of the Community Network Pilots is Connect, the new Early Learning and Development Standards, and CLASS, the new program assessment tool. Beginning in 2015, all publicly funded programs will be required to use these tools.
